Sorry Bhaisaab

Introduction –

Films revolving around middle class families have this amazing traction with the masses. Sorry Bhaisaab is a perfect example. It reflects the daily challenges and the frustrations of people belonging to this socioeconomic category.

Synopsis –

Mr. & Mrs. Gupta ( Sharib Hasmi & Gauhar Khan ), a typical middle class family, reside in one of the ghettoes of DDA complex. They face the same dilemmas like the rest of the families across India; limited finances and ever growing needs. Mrs. Gupta aka Kamini, is a modern, demanding and kitty party type housewife. Pompous by nature, she has the habit of boasting verbally and on Whatsapp groups while Guptaji resembles a typical husband trying to keep everyone happy with his limited resources, including his 10 year old daughter.

The story shifts on to a different track when someone steals their rickety, red Maruti car. Guptaji literally has a seizure while Kamini feels that God is hinting that they buy a new one. Guptaji files an FIR at the local police station. However, his wife continues to torment him with the demand. Guptaji is in a fix.

And then as if by magic, Guptaji gets back his car, including a letter from the person who actually stole it. The so called thief offers an apology and an explanation that he had to steal the car because his mother was ill and he had to take her to the hospital. Unavailability of auto-rickshaw forced him to commit the crime. As a token of appreciation, the sentimental crook provides three tickets to a latest blockbuster film.

Guptaji is happy. He now agrees to buy a new car in exchange of the old one. To celebrate the occasion the family drive to the cinema hall in their old car …

Watch the film to know whether Guptaji and his family bought a car … or not.

Analysis –

Short films like Sorry Bhaisaab rarely have tech peeves or creative nettles such as bad light or shadows, below par direction and cinematography goof-ups. The reason being, these are character driven, plot based works. The focus is entirely on the acting skills and this where Sorry Bhaisaab earns a huge applause. Sharib Hasmi & Gauhar Khan have done exceptionally well in portraying a frustrated, middle-class family while the rest of the actors have done their bit in spite of the brevity of their performances.
