The Relationship Manager

Introduction –

A relationship manager steps out of his professional zone and offers advice on abusive relationships. It changes the life of his female client forever.

Synopsis –

Vinay is a relationship manager offering financial advice to high net worth individuals. He is sincere, passionate about his job and also an understanding husband. As soon as his communication system beeps he walks to his makeshift desk, eases into the chair and begins his “Work from Home” stint. He calls up clients, wishes them, indulges in small talk and then suggests portfolio tweaks for maximum returns on investment. The way his clients respond reflects Vinay’s popularity and his importance.

He makes yet another call, and this time before he can offer any suggestion he hears a loud cry, a cry of pain, as if someone was being physically abused. The voice belongs to the wife of Vinay’s client. Her name is Kavita Arora. Vinay is asked by the client to call later. However, Vinay is stunned by the encounter. He decides to call up Kavita Arora directly, bypassing her husband and her abuser, to know if she is alright.

Spoiler Ahead – Albeit not too important!

Over the next 10 minutes Vinay makes his way into Kavita’s heart as a brother and offers advice which is not a part of his job, and neither his expertise. However, it changes Kavita’s life forever. Watch the film to experience a different perspective of relationship manager, especially in technology driven times where the only interfaces are series of icons and emoticons.

Analysis –

Divya Dutta and Anup Soni need no introduction. Both have one thing in common. They are underrated and never exploited to their fullest talent. Films typically require variety of emotions, expressions and movements to grab viewers’ attention. Not with Divya Dutta and Anup Soni. Their tonal power is incomparable, and their eyes can actually speak. The ‘work from home’ settings appear authentic, genuine. Juhi Babbar plays the role of Vinay’s wife in this short film. Interestingly, she is also Anup Soni’s real life partner. In spite the brevity of the film, we felt the cinematography was top class while the direction, spot on … without jerks or unwanted experiments.
