Blouse

Introduction –

Although many viewers may not find the theme relevant in today’s digital times such events do happen in India, especially in small towns and villages. The film revolves around a “gift” promised by a husband to his newly wedded wife.

Synopsis –

Shyam ( Sumeet Vyas ) is a teacher in Meja, a place far away from his home town. He visits his wife every two months, and even then his stay is brief. Shyam is about to head for Meja yet again but this time, his wife, Roopa insists that he returns on the 10th of coming month. When questioned, Roopa says it is an auspicious day ( Karva Chauth ) and she’d be happy if he was around. Shyam agrees to visit. He asks Roopa to name any gift and he will get it. Roopa says she doesn’t want a gift. Shyam is persistent. Roopa says that Babu tailor ( Imran Rasheed ) of Meja was famous for stitching perfect blouses, and she’d like one.

Next day Shyam departs for Meja. On arriving in the village he realizes that he has the fabric but the used blouse which Roopa gave him as template for measurement is missing. He meets Babu Tailor and explains his predicament. Babu tells him that without the template / measurement it would be impossible to stitch Roopa’s blouse. Babu offers a suggestion. He tells him to sit in his shop after school hours, check out the females and narrow down the one whose bosom matches with his wife.

Does Shyam agree to this ridiculous idea? Does he manage to get the blouse stitched? Watch this humorous and bittersweet short film to know the answers. Blouse is guaranteed to bring a smile on your face.

Analysis –

Blouse scores high on the subject and performance parameters. The theme is refreshing, unique and absolutely delightful. What makes it a must watch film is the brilliant performances including Kanta ( Ronjini Chakraborty ), Babu Tailor’s wife. Props, location, scenery and costumes are spot on while cinematography could have been better. Director Vijayeta Kumar has done his homework and it reflects in the scenes which demand complementing mood and effects.
