Khamakha

Introduction –

Some of the events in our lives are scripted by the master screenplay writer Himself. This film revolves around one such incident in the life of Udayan, a suave and sophisticated custom car designer.

Synopsis –

Even as Udayan ( Harshvardhan Rane ) heads to Mumbai from Pune his car breaks down on the highway, and hence forced to travel in a state bus. Although things have changed today, travelling in a state bus is still an adventure in certain remote routes. Udayan too experiences these funny and real-life capers. He also encounters a pretty lady, Raina ( Manjari Fadnnis ), a travel writer and an expert with languages.

In an insanely unique introduction, the two begin on a cautious note. While Raina’s affinity for a Hindi novel which interestingly is the center of her attention seem to bug Udayan, Raina refuses to debate on her choice of language. Nonetheless, Raina succumbs to Udayan’s charm. She counters Udayan’s observation with her own query. She wants to know why English is considered a yardstick for a person’s intelligence and educational milestone.

Udayan says he has no issues with any language. His only chafe was the way some people ‘Murdered’ English language with atrocious phrases. He says, for him grammar mattered a lot. Gradually, Raina shows him the other side of her personality; the one that speaks fluent English ( she scores high numbers on Udayan’s grammer check ) and also a master in 10 other languages. She also introduces him to her creative side, person who enjoyed Broadway shows and occasionally got drunk.

The film has several light moments in the form of innocent questions and friendly gossip, offering insight into a relationship born out of mutual attraction and respect, and in a short time. Check out Khamakha for the rest of the story.

Analysis –

Although 17 minutes is not really a lengthy period to build tension or infatuation, the writer has done a good job of having written a super sleek script without losing the direction. Kudos also to the director Aarti Bagdi for having exploited the limited settings ( Bus ) beautifully. On the acting front, Harshvardhan has enacted the character accurately while Manjari’s crisp diction and clear enunciation is a joy to hear. Her expressive face needs little support from the script.
