Jutti – The Slipper

Introduction –

Jutti is a sweet, matured, quick-witted love story. What makes it different from the other films belonging to similar genre is the unique setting. People have fallen in love in pubs, trains, airports and even while jogging. But getting romantically involved in a shoe shop is something different, something refreshing and the USP of this film.

Synopsis –

Amee ( Shivani Raghuvanshi ) and her friend are holidaying in a ( religious ) hill station when Amee realizes that one of the straps of her slipper has split and therefore needs a new pair immediately. They end up in Harry’s ( Vishwas Kini ) shop located in one of the by lanes of a nondescript area. Sparks fly when they meet. While Amee’s cultural inclination, synonymous with Gujaratis, forces her to bargain, Harry’s Punjabiyat is all too visible as he keeps offering massive discount. For him it is love at first sight kind of an experience.

Amee exploits Harry’s infatuation by demanding a pair of “Jutti” for free. This is where the director has done a tremendous job, freezing the camera on the characters, and then alternating between the two. While Amee offers an expression of triumph, of outwitting the shop owner, Harry wears an expression of disbelief, of struggling between his affection for the girl and his business ethics.

Analysis –

Vishwas Kini and Shivani Raghuvanshi are simply outstanding, doing complete justice to the characters that they play. The script is tight, dialogs natural, at times comic and at times satirical, depending on the situation. Kudos to the director, Mohinder Pratap Singh for exploiting the close-up shots brilliantly. Had it not been for the magic of eyes and facial expressions of Amee and Harry the film wouldn’t have made such an impact.

Suren and Deepika Sharma also shine with their performance in spite the brevity of their roles.
